Frequently Asked Questions
Why
are millions of videos being viewed on BrokenCurve syndicated
platform each month?
The
great thing about BrokenCurve that differentiate us from all other
online Video platforms is that our users are able to create and watch
a list of videos, as oppose to selecting and watch one piece of video
at a time. For end users, it’s just like being the
programmer for your own TV station. Once your list is
created, you press play and sit back and watch all your videos
without lifting another finger. Additionally, users are able to take
their created play list and embed it in their profile on myspace.com,
facebook.com or any other website for that matter. Other sites only
offer users the option to embed one piece of video at a time.
As
a result many web masters are signing up to be web publisher partners
of BrokenCurve.com. They are then able to broadcast BrokenCurve
content on their site and generate an income from doing so. If you
are a publisher learn more here:

Finally,
we empower our community to get the news out about things that are
happening in their communities. With the “You Report it”
Feature, users are able to use their cell phones and other electronic
devices to send in pictures and text about things that matter to
them. From celebrity sighting, concerts and party reviews, disasters
and accidents to police brutality. Don't
let others tell your story, if it’s happening, You Report it!
Those who provide the top rated and most viewed reports will be
allowed to submit video reports and qualify for compensation.
How
often will Content Partners be paid?
BrokenCurve
will pay to Licensor the licensor’s Net Revenue for a given
month on a net 30 basis.
What
is Net Revenue?
Net
Advertising proceeds will be the gross amount of advertising revenue
generated, less any costs incurred to secure such advertising. Costs
will be deducted prior to calculation of Licensor’s percentage,
and will include hosting, streaming of Licensed Media Content to
users and affiliate agent fee.
How
will I know if I am being paid what I am due?
Content
partners are able to track how many views their content is receiving
in real time.
What
is the rate and/or formula for payment?
BrokenCurve
shares ad revenue with its content partners. The specific rate and/or
formula for payment is based on your contract with BrokenCurve LLC.
In general, content owners will be compensated based on how often
their content is viewed and the advertising rate set by both
advertisers and BrokenCurve.
Am
I paid per viewings of my content?
Yes,
you are paid based on how many times your content is viewed.
A
Video Ad will play before every three Video Viewing. (This might
change base on user feed back)
What
if there is an initial period when there is no advertising and my
content is being viewed, do I still get paid?
No,
we only pay for viewed content when we have advertisers sponsoring
your content.
Do
I have to secure advertisers for my content?
You
do not have to secure advertisers for your content. That is our job.
Keep
on creating great content and let us find a way to monetize it.
The
only thing we ask for is a list of advertisers that you think would
be interested in your content and a few reasons why. However, if you
have access to advertising, please feel free to pass that contact
information along to us. It will only help you make more money!
Do
I have any control as to where my content appears?
Content
owners are able to restrict their content from appearing on specific
sites.
However,
restricting your content from certain sites might adversely affect
your potential revenue.
Is
there a limit for how long my content will be available?
There
are no limits for how long your content is available. Our initial
licensing of your content is for 12 months.
Do
I have to show any clearances or talent releases?
Our
contract states that Licensor
(you) hereby represents and warrants that: (1) the Licensed Media
Content is owned or licensed by Licensor (you) and does not breach or
infringe any copyright, common law right, or other right of any third
party; (2) the Licensed Media Content does not contain any matter
which is scandalous, libelous, obscene, an invasion of privacy,
pornographic, or otherwise unlawful; and (3) Licensor has the right,
power and authority to enter into and perform this Agreement. We
suggest you dot all your “i's” and cross all your “t's”.
What
format do I make submissions in?
All
files should be submitted in Flash format (.flv)
Most
video editing programs are able to convert your finished product to
flash.
Ask
your editor or ask us for more information.
Is
there a limitation on the length of content submitted?
Our
suggested length for content submitted to our platform is 7 minutes.
This
time limit works best for optimizing advertising.
If
you have content longer than 7 minutes, we suggest you cut it into
several parts.
Why
is this length optimal?
This
length is optimal for two reasons: (1.) After the 5 to 7 minute
ranges, the time it takes to download the content starts to be
observable and become a potential a hindrance to the user. (2.) A 21
minute piece of content for example is able to garner more viewing
incidents if it is divided into 3 equal pieces than if it is being
viewed as one piece of content.
What
if I am a filmmaker with an interesting film, how do I get
compensated?
Filmmakers
are compensated the same way other content owners will. If
you have content longer than 7 minutes, we suggest you cut it into
several parts with 7 minutes as the suggest longest piece. We are
then able to add video ads over the content as a pre-roll, post-roll
or banner ads on the page where the content is being viewed. Base on
your contract with BrokenCurve, you will receive a certain percentage
of the ad revenue generated by the viewing of your content.
To
us it does not matter if your film is a short or feature length.
The
CPM model for advertisers.
Cost
per mille (CPM), also called cost per thousand (CPT), is a commonly
used measurement in
advertising.
In Italian mille means thousand, therefore, CPM means cost per
thousand. CPM is used by
Internet
marketers to price ad banners and Video Ads . Sites that sell
advertising will guarantee an
advertiser
a certain number of impressions (number of times an ad banner is
downloaded and
presumably
seen by visitors.), then set a rate based on that guarantee times the
CPM rate. Assuming a website has
a CPM rate of $25 and guarantees advertisers 600,000 impressions will
charge $15,000 ($25 x 600) for those advertisers' ad banner.
This
model gives the advertiser more control and choices during a
campaign. Advertisers can set a
budget
base on dollars or desired number or page views. We will also provide
reports to the advertisers
regarding
the campaign. Advertisers are billed on a monthly bases.
An
example of computing the CPM:
1.
Total cost for running the ad is $15,000.
2.
The total volume is 2,400,000 views.
3.
The CPM is computed as CPM = ($15,000 x 1000)/2,400,000 = $6.25
CPM
can also be calculated as CPM = $15,000/(2,400,000/1000) = $6.25
The
second equation is easier for solving for unknown Cost of Unit when
you know Audience and
desired
CPM.
